A practical and efficient way is make the first attempt in a CAD system, carve it out on a CNC-machine and then perfect it by hand.

To mass produce the manually corrected shape Scantech has a perfect solution: 3D laser scan and Copying with CARSO CAD/CAM. The Scantech system is made for this kind of hard to define organic shapes and it works perfect!

Of course the scan can also be exported to your favorite CAD/CAM system for further manipulation, and still maintain the perfect shape thanks to the 3D scanned surface.
