How it works |
How it worksLaser scanning is the process of measuring any given object by means of a laser beam and digitizing the information. With the information you can copy or modify the object in different ways with a CAD/CAM. If the scanner is connected to a CNC-machine, it is possible to cut off a considerable amount of hard manual work, as for example in the stone industry. See Applications for examples.
Technically laser scanning works through a transmitter/camera that sends out a laser beam that reflects on the object. Depending on the type of scanner the system can work in several axises; x, y and z. During the scan the system builds a 3D model of the object. This model can be modified in a CAD-system or used for copying the exact shape.
